In recent years, many embassies and consulates have shrunk or closed due to budget cuts. As a result, many Dutch citizens have to travel thousands of kilometers and spend thousands of euros renewing their passports (every ten years) or their children's (every five years). This makes maintaining Dutch citizenship untenable for some.
Renewing a passport or obtaining other documents is often very detailed and difficult.
The Dutch government must continue to invest in the international diplomatic network: not only to put the Netherlands on the map economically, but also to actively support Dutch people on the ground.
It should be possible to renew the passport by post (digitally or otherwise).
Biometric data must be able to be collected even more frequently and in even more places outside the consulate or embassy.
