Voting Abroad
Voting from abroad is very cumbersome. The voting procedure for Dutch citizens abroad requires active registration well before the elections.
Voting Abroad
Dutch citizens abroad have been able to participate in elections for the House of Representatives and the European Parliament for quite some time now. Thanks to the efforts of the SNBN, this has also been the case for the Senate elections since 2023. Regardless of the election, voting from abroad is still very cumbersome.
Voting for Dutch citizens abroad requires active registration well before the elections. Voting itself must also take place before the actual election campaign begins – unless you use a proxy.
The majority of this voting process is still carried out by regular mail, with the result that in practice ballots often do not arrive or arrive too late (to the voter or in The Hague).
It's time for the most complete digitalization of the voting process possible. The SNBN continues to champion this cause.
We will discuss this in detail in the run-up to the next elections.

Webinar voting for the Senate
You can watch the webinar "Voting for the Senate from abroad" below. This was already the seventh SNBN webinar and took place on February 28th. This timing is no coincidence; if all goes well, we should be able to vote for the Senate from abroad as early as next year. We'll explain how that works in the webinar. The two speakers for this webinar are Member of Parliament Joost Sneller (D66) and Simon Otjes, assistant professor at Leiden University and researcher at the Documentation Centre for...
