2025 House of Representatives Elections - What do the parties say about our themes?

In the lead-up to the October 29 elections, the Foundation for Dutch People Abroad (SNBN) spoke with (candidate) politicians from various political parties about topics of great importance to Dutch people living abroad. The parties we asked to participate correspond with the parties of which the various SNBN board members are members. Ultimately, we were able to arrange interviews with the Groenlinks/PvdA, Volt, PvdD, D66, CDA, NSC, and VVD. Thanks to Carole Overmaat for conducting the interviews!

During these video interviews we asked, among other things:

  • Whether, according to their party, Dutch people abroad should be allowed to have dual nationality (as is already the case in most European countries).

  • Or they believe that Dutch people abroad should be able to keep or open a Dutch bank account.

  • How parties intend to ensure better consular services, now that waiting times for passports often take months.

  • What their position is on digital voting for Dutch people outside the Netherlands.

  • And finally: how parties connect with the more than one million Dutch people outside the Netherlands, who contribute to the economy, knowledge and culture worldwide.

The opinions shared in these conversations are of course those of the politicians and parties themselves, not of the SNBN.

The SNBN does not offer voting advice and is politically neutral, but primarily aims to provide insight and raise awareness about how parties view the interests of Dutch citizens abroad. Everyone can draw their own conclusions from this.

NB: Why did we invite these parties and not others? As a board, we decided to limit ourselves to the parties we represent on the board ourselves. As you know, the composition of our board often changes after parliamentary elections: for example, we previously had a board member who was a member of Forum voor Democratie, and after the last parliamentary elections, we decided to open the door to a board member with an NSC affiliation. At the same time, we cannot admit everyone to the board for practical reasons. This is a recurring discussion within the board after every parliamentary election, and certainly not a constant!

Important: make sure your vote is in on time!
