We have a flag! The announced competition for the Flag of the Dutch People Outside the Netherlands was taken up by an incredible number of creative people. After the process (which, of course, had to be democratic!) regarding the winning design, we were able to present the winning concept during the unveiling webinar last week.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the 85 participants (!) who all put forth their effort and creativity to come up with a unifying concept for the more than 1 million Dutch people living abroad! We proudly present the winning concept by Bernard de Graaf (United Kingdom). In Bernard's words: "This flag belongs to all of us, Dutch people living abroad, represented by the orange lines that fan out in all directions but always remain connected and engaged with the Netherlands by converging in the center of our familiar tricolor." In last week's webinar, we already gave a glimpse into our future (political) plans for the flag, such as offering it to political leaders. More news about the flag—including how to order it and the precise specifications—will follow soon. Suggestions for clever political lobbying uses of the flag are always welcome—in addition to all other reactions to the flag!
