If you meet certain conditions, you may also be entitled to student finance as a foreign student, even if you study abroad.
Student financing currently consists of three components:
basic grant
supplementary grant
Public transport reimbursement.
loan
tuition fee loan
If you meet all the requirements, you are entitled to the basic grant, public transport reimbursements, and the supplementary grant. These are a gift (you must obtain your diploma within 10 years). The supplementary grant is income-related. When applying, you will therefore need to declare your parent(s)' income, for example, through a tax return from their country of residence. DUO will then assess your eligibility for the supplementary grant.
If necessary, you can also apply for an interest-bearing loan or tuition fee credit. You can also apply for student finance retroactively for the entire current academic year (not for previous academic years) . Not sure if you meet all the requirements for student finance? Always apply! DUO will then assess your application. On May 28, 2024, the SNBN, in collaboration with DUO, organized a webinar specifically for Dutch students abroad. Frequently asked questions are answered here. You can watch the webinar here:
