SNBN Newsletter Aug 15: Speakers & Program for the Day of Dutch People Abroad on Sept 3, 2026

The third edition of the Day of the Dutch Abroad takes place on Thursday morning, September 3, in Nieuwspoort, The Hague, with the opening up of dual nationality as the main theme this time.
The day will be chaired by Frits Huffnagel , former Alderman of Amsterdam. After a brief opening and introductory words by Eelco Keij , Chairman of the SNBN, a video will follow outlining the context: who are Dutch nationals outside the Netherlands, why does the subject of dual nationality affect them directly, and which parts of the legislative proposal to make dual nationality widely possible are of importance to them?
This will be followed by a panel discussion with representatives from the House of Representatives and the Senate, as well as legal and academic experts. Those who have confirmed their participation include Jan Schoonis (D66, House of Representatives), Jeltje Straatman (CDA, House of Representatives, subject to confirmation), Claire Martens-America (VVD, House of Representatives), Songül Mutluer (PRO, House of Representatives), Robbert Lievense (BBB, Senate), Hermie de Voer (Everaert Advocaten), and Prof. Dr. Betty de Hart (Professor of Transnational Families and Migration Law, Vrije Universiteit).
Thank you to everyone who sent us their (life) story about dual nationality. We are sharing these stories with the moderator for optimal preparation! Please keep sending your experiences and submit your questions for the moderator to info@snbn.nl , so that they can be submitted to the panelists. Incidentally, this can also be done live during the event via the chat on our website, where the broadcast will be streamed live .

Call for submissions! For the introductory video on the day itself, and also for the rest of the campaign this year (for example, just before the debate in the House of Representatives or the Senate), we are looking for clips from various Dutch people living outside the Netherlands who:
👉 have lost Dutch citizenship, or
👉 do not want to adopt the nationality of their country of residence for fear of losing their Dutch citizenship.
🎥 Send in a video of yourself briefly introducing yourself, where you live, and explaining your situation – naturally including the impact on your personal situation / family life, and your appeal to the government (keep it to about 1 minute).💡 Try to find a quiet location without background noise, preferably windless.
