Education
Here you will find information about Dutch-language education abroad and about the right to student finance for Dutch citizens abroad.
Dutch-language education abroad
The Dutch language forms one of the foundations of Dutch culture and our bond with the Netherlands. If our children don't learn Dutch, there's a good chance we'll lose them later (think of the potential for using their professional skills in the Dutch labor market, as well as their cultural and social involvement). If our children don't learn Dutch, it will be harder for them to maintain ties with their Dutch families, and without a specific Dutch diploma, they won't be allowed to pursue Dutch-language studies (but will have to rely on the much smaller selection of English-language programs).
Maintaining and supporting high-quality education in Dutch and preserving Dutch culture for Dutch citizens abroad is therefore essential. Dutch education abroad is offered alongside local education in the new country. Several providers exist for this purpose, the most well-known (and also accredited by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science) being the Foundation for Dutch Education Abroad (NOB) .
During the spring of 2021 we held a webinar on Dutch education abroad .
Student financing
In certain cases, Dutch citizens who don't live in the Netherlands can also receive Dutch student finance for their studies in the Netherlands. This can also be used for studies in your new country of residence.
In this article with webinar The SNBN has organized this survey in collaboration with DUO, which outlines the most important terms and conditions. For further and the most up-to-date information, please visit the DUO website .
